The Building Industry Association is, and will remain, a partner to the City of San Diego in increasing housing production. If we want the City’s plans to result in real, attainable homes, it must pair its housing goals with meaningful regulatory reform — and continue its efforts to achieve a faster, more predictable approval process.
Mayor Gloria understands the importance of growing our housing supply, and we appreciate his focus in today’s State of the City address on advancing major efforts like community plan updates and housing on public land.
What we hear consistently from builders is that even more needs to be done to make it easier to create housing in San Diego. The need for bringing new, attainable homes online cannot be overstated, as demonstrated by the thousands of families facing impossible choices driven by our lack of supply. We will be a vocal advocate for the homes San Diegans need.
