The 2022 California Title 24, Part 6 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Energy Code) became effective on January 1, 2023. This fact sheet explains 2022 Energy Code requirements for photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage systems and solar readiness for multifamily buildings with 4 or more habitable stories, nonresidential buildings, hotels, motels and mixed-used buildings. Solar electricity from nonresidential and residential PV systems in combination with battery storage helps California meet its increasingly ambitious climate goals.
