The Oceanside City Council recently held a housing workshop to discuss ways to provide more subsidized units in the city. There was a push from Mayor Sanchez and Councilmember Joyce to increase the inclusionary requirement to 15% or higher, up from the current 10%. BIA builders have expressed deep concerns about the increase as it could make building housing in Oceanside economically unfeasible. The council agreed to do a study at 15% and higher at the hearing. Staff will be returning in a few months with outcomes of the study. BIA will continue to push to maintain the current 10% requirement.
